Venezuelan minister exhorts to maintain heroes’ legacy

Caracas, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino urged the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) to maintain the heroes' legacy on the occasion of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Pichincha this Tuesday.

Padrino emphasized that the epic led by Antonio Jose de Sucre, from Cumana, to liberate Quito, in the Battle of Pichincha, demonstrated Liberator Simon Bolivar’s vision on the need to maintain the continental unity against imperialism: “South American integration is fundamental.”

He assured that the troops and officers of the FANB and the people in arms remain at the forefront of every battle, demonstrating the democratic, anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist spirit of the men and women of the homeland.

The minister underlined that the Venezuelan youth is fully aware of what they have lived through, “we are walking the bicentennial paths, of those events that marked the future of this vast region, of this great nation.”

He emphasized that the country is currently facing another battle of Pichincha, as it is a continental battle against imperialism and hegemonism, it is Bolivarianism against the Monroist vision.

Intellectuals globally and members of the Network of History, Memory and Heritage attend the meeting, which ends today.
