Popular mobilizations will restart in Panama for social demands

Panama City, June 1 (Prensa Latina) The National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights (Frenadeso), of Panama, announced they will resume mobilizations in the face of the Government's lack of attention to their social demands.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the coordinator of Frenadeso, Jorge Guzmán, specified that after two meetings with the Executive to evaluate some 32 requests, including the general salary increase and policies against unemployment, the interest in responding has been almost nil.

In that sense, he and other leaders of the group pointed out that they will return to the streets to reject the position of the State, traditional political parties and misnamed independents, and in support of the demand for greater benefits for the Panamanian family.

Guzmán specified that tomorrow, Wednesday, they will reject the complicit attitude towards the problems in a concentration in the vicinity of the Ombudsman’s Office, and then go through the arteries of the city in a march and reach the facilities of the National Authority of Public Services and the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition.

Similarly, next Thursday they will closely monitor the results of the third session of a dialogue table with the Government at the Presidential Palace, installed two weeks ago after protests organized by the main labor unions and unions in the country, as part of the recent United People for Life alliance created.

They also announced that another national meeting of the leaders of the union groups in Panama will take place on June 25 to specify details of a march of the entire town, three days later, in tribute to the social fighter, Federico Britton, 10 years after your physical game.

At the press conference, Frenadeso also condemned the political and hegemonic interests that are moved by the host United States at the IX Summit of the Americas, from June 6 to 10 in Los Angeles, California.

“We speak out against the surrender policy of the government of Laurentino Cortizo that is appreciated once again as the Summit of Biden’s friends (Joe) approaches,” they said in a statement.

They also highlighted the dignity of peoples and governments such as Mexico and Caribbean nations that refused to attend that meeting without the participation of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, countries excluded by Washington.

At the same time they insisted on calling an Original Constituent Assembly, with full powers, to reform the State; and they also supported the upcoming process to register the Broad Front for Democracy as a political party, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
