Cuba reports 40 collapsed houses and one deceased due to heavy rains

Havana, June 3 (Prensa Latina) Heavy rainfall and flooding in urban areas today caused 40 collapsed houses in the Cuban capital, 398 evacuees, 1,836 self-evacuees and one death.

According to the Cubadebate website, on this day the Temporary Working Group of Havana met, with the presence of Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, where the situation of the province was evaluated in the face of the heavy rains that affect the West of the island.

At the meeting it was reported that the deceased person, aged 69, lived in the capital’s Centro Habana municipality.

The meteorologist Aylin Justiz specified that despite the heavy rains, the conditions are not conducive to the formation of a tropical storm; but the heacvy rains will last until noon on Saturday and may be accompanied by stronger winds.

The president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, Antonio Rodríguez Rodríguez, stated “since this morning more than 100 mm of water have fallen in the capital, and in the rest of the day and dawn on Saturday between 300 and 400 mm may fall in some zones”.
