The facility has three units, two of which are modernized and generate 295 megawatts altogether.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Vice President Salvador Valdes also joined the tour, during which Plant General Director Argelis Lescay explained the situation at the facility.
Lescay noted that all three units are past the capital maintenance cycle, and added that this is the essential cause of their limitations, the Cuban Presidency published on Twitter.
Diaz-Canel toured the plant’s units and its control room, where he spoke with young people in charge of major processes at the CTE.
He invited them to improve themselves constantly and asked the directors to take care of them as they deserve.
