Neighbors highlight community development during President’s visit

Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today highlighted the relevance of promoting citizen participation in the actions carried out as part of the government strategy to promote development of the country's communities.

The Cuban president toured on Tuesday centers of economic interest and capital neighborhoods immersed in transformation processes to improve infrastructure and services, and raise the quality of life of its inhabitants, urging not to be overcome by difficulties and move forward.

In El Bajo community, in the capital’s municipality of Playa, Díaz-Canel learned about the experiences of the “Yes Environment” project, dedicated to giving social, economic and tourist use value to the areas of that place, the Presidency reported through Twitter.

According to Yoanka Estévez, leader of the initiative, the rescue of this coastal farm began in June 2020 under a sustainable management plan in which several actors participate, and to date employs 42 people from the community.

Díaz-Canel also attended today, in the Vedado neighborhood, a store of the Dujo Cuban furniture industry, which he described as an example of the efficiency that socialist state company can achieve.

The Cuban president’s tour also included the “La Concepción” neighborhood, in the capital’s municipality of La Lisa, where he called on the institutions and the population involved in this task not to be overcome by difficulties and move forward.

This community, with more than 2,500 inhabitants, is one of the three of the Arroyo Arena People’s Council immersed in rehabilitation work, which has allowed the paving of streets, restoration of schools, warehouses and children’s parks, the installation of telephones, and work is being done on sanitation and conservation of multi-family buildings.
