Serbia maintained its support of Russia, says minister

Aleksandar-Vulin-Lavrov
Belgrade, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin assured that Serbia is the only country in Europe that has not introduced sanctions against Russia and has not succumbed to anti-Russian hysteria. These statements were made after a meeting between Vulin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

During the meeting, the minister thanked Russia for its constant support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and the non-recognition of Kosovo. He also expressed regret that Lavrov’s planned visit to Belgrade last June did not take place due to the closure of the airspace of Serbia’s neighboring countries, calling it a violation of international law.

The Russian Foreign Minister also lamented this situation and invited his Serbian counterpart, Nikola Selakovic, to visit Russia “at any convenient time.”

The parties agreed that Moscow and Belgrade maintain good relations and continue to develop bilateral cooperation, despite current challenges.

Despite being on the path of accession to the European Union, Serbia has repeatedly refused to join the bloc’s anti-Russian sanctions.

Belgrade also assured to maintain neutrality regarding the Ukrainian crisis.
