Israeli troops raids home of Palestinian governor of Jerusalem

Ramallah, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Israeli troops raided the home of the Palestinian governor of East Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, who is under indefinite house arrest.

The Wafa news agency revealed that the soldiers broke into the house, located in the neighborhood of Silwan, an area that is the target of Jewish eviction and colonization policies.

On August 4th, the Israeli Jerusalem District Court placed the governor under indefinite house arrest pending trial for violating an order to visit the West Bank.

Since taking office in 2018, the official has been arrested more than 30 times by the Israeli authorities, who keep him from traveling to the West Bank and having contacts with any Palestinian leader.

Tel Aviv prohibits the Palestinian National Authority from holding political or social activities in East Jerusalem by stating that it is Israeli territory, which is rejected by the international community and the UN, which consider that area to be occupied territory.

Israel occupied the eastern area of the metropolis in the 1967 war, and since then it has kept the territory under its control despite the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

According to various non-governmental organizations, some 200,000 Jewish settlers live in the area and more than 490,000 in the rest of the occupied West Bank.
