According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, the funeral of the renowned artist will take place in the lobby of the Havana-based National Theater’s Avellaneda Hall, from 12:00 hours to 16:00 hours, local time.

Prominent figures, friends, and fans will recall Basnuevo for her proven histrionic ability and versatility, which led her to assume roles as an entertainer, singer, and program host, while shining with equal success in comedy and drama.

After an extensive career in radio, theater, cinema, and television, her name was registered in the national culture for playing the character of Estelvina, which she embodied for decades as part of “Alegrías de sobremesa,” a humorous program in Radio Progreso station, with a script by Alberto Luberta.

On television, she acted in adventures, including “Los mambises,” “Tierra y sangre,” and the emblematic comedy show “San Nicolás del Peladero,” along with her partner in life Mario Limonta.

She also performed in feature films such as “El Encuentro,” “Vals de la Habana Vieja,” “Cuarteto de La Habana,” “Salsa,” “Havana Blues” and “Adela,” a short film directed by Humberto Solás.

At her 84 years, Basnuevo held high distinctions, including the 2004 National Humor Award, the 2009 National Radio Award, the Tropical Gypsy Distinction, the 2014 ACTUAR Lifetime Achievement Award, the Replica of General Maximo Gomez’s Machete, and the medal for the 100th anniversary of Radio in Cuba.
