Ethiopia, Cuba to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several sectors

Addis Ababa, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia and Cuba will work together to boost and diversify bilateral cooperation in different areas, Cuba´s Foreign Ministry (MINREX) informed Friday.

The agreement to strengthen and boost bilateral relations came at the end of a meeting held between Ethiopian ambassador in Havana Genet Teshome and the Director of MINREX´s Sub-Saharan Africa Department Luis Alberto Amorós.

Both diplomats reviewed the new openings to draw up strategies or collaboration agenda in agriculture, technology, health and higher education, among other sectors, according to the press release.

During the meeting, Teshome reviewed Ethiopia´s present situation by laying stress on the Peace Agreement signed in Pretoria, South Africa, with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

He also detailed about humanitarian aid, restoration of all basic services as well as the implementation of transitional justice for accountability and reconciliation in the north of the country.

With this agreement, the foundations for a sustainable peace were laid, respecting sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the nation, said the Ethiopian diplomat.

Amorós, on the other hand, heaped praise on the efforts to reestablish stability in the northern part of Ethiopia and also “expressed Cuba’s hope this will help to achieve a lasting peace for the brotherly people of Ethiopia.”
