Panama reports first mpox female case

Panama City, Dec 28 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian health authorities on Wednesday reported the first case of mpox in a woman, while calling for preventive measures.

In a press release, Health Minister Luis Francisco Sucre affirmed the patient was diagnosed a few weeks ago, although the patient has already overcome the symptoms.

Since May 24, Panama has kept a health alert nationwide and redoubled epidemiological surveillance in entry points to the national territory.

The first mpox patient was confirmed on July 5, 2022, and as of last Wednesday (December 21), out of 78 cases detected, 13 remained active.

He stated that the sixth Covid-19 wave is under control, however, he highly recommended population to be fully vaccinated and to self-care as health measures to mitigate coronavirus transmission.
