Colombo, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) Dengue cases tripled in Sri Lanka during 2022, compared to the previous year, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director-General of Health Services, warned on Sunday.

Since January 2022, as many as 76,214 dengue-infected patients were reported nationwide, while about 25,000 cases were reported in 2021.

Dr. Gunawardena stressed there is a high risk of an increased dengue case toll in January 2023, as 200 to 300 patients are being reported per day to hospitals for the past four weeks.

If a person has fever for more than 24 hours they should go to a hospital immediately to receive qualified medical treatment, Dr. Gunawardena stated.

Health Ministry recommended taking all necessary health measures to look for places with high risks of mosquitoes breeding in/and around their homes and eliminate them.

Plus, people were instructed that exact attention should be paid to work environments and public places.
