Six killed by Ukrainian shelling of Lugansk hospital

Moscow, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) At least six people lost their lives due to the bombardment by Ukrainian forces against the Pervomaisk hospital, in the Luhansk People's Republic, local medical authorities reported today.

According to the head of the health services of the hospital entity, Tatiana Kovaleva, the number of deaths may increase as the rubble caused by the artillery attack is cleaned, the Sputnik agency highlighted this Sunday.

Among those who lost their lives are hospital patients and medical personnel, while the number of injured cannot yet be quantified, because many were urgently transferred to other care centers, Kovaleva said.

Three attacks were carried out against the health institution, the last of which reached the roof of the building, where an emergency operation was being carried out at that time.

The joint center for the control and coordination of matters related to war crimes in Ukraine announced that the attack was carried out with six missiles of the US-made Himars system, which destroyed the central building of the hospital.

Russia has been carrying out a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24 of last year, alleging that the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk needed help, as they denounced, in the face of kyiv’s genocide.

Donetsk and Lugansk became independent from Ukraine in May 2014 after failing to recognize the new authorities that resulted from the coup in Kiev in February of that same year.

On February 21, 2022, Moscow recognized them as sovereign states and, last September, after two separate referendums where the “yes” for the union with Russia won by an overwhelming majority, they were incorporated into the territory of the Federation.
