The Russian officer added that the Western nations also trying to convince Georgia that “it is time to regain control over the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Naryshkin issued these statements to the press at the end of a visit to the capital of Belarus, where he attended a joint meeting between the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service and that country’s State Security Committee.
Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August 2008, after expelling, from South Ossetia, the Georgian troops who had invaded the republic and attacked its capital, Tskhinvali, then under the protection of Russian peacekeepers.
