As reported on Tuesday by the official IRNA news agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Naser Kanani dismissed the accusations of senior White House official John Kirby against the Islamic Republic regarding the safety of navigation in the strategic area.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that it is the US has been creating and provoking instability and insecurity in the Persian Gulf region over the past decades through destructive and meddlesome policies.
Kirby pointed out last Friday that the US military will work to strengthen its defense posture in the Persian Gulf and increase coordination with its allies in the Strait of Hormuz, following what he called Iran’s seizure and harassment of commercial shipping vessels in recent months.
Kanani, in turn, rejected those remarks and said that Iran is the most influential country in protecting the safety of navigation in such regional and international waters, and has always ensured the safe passage of ships in the said strait, IRNA added.
The new accusations against Iran, the official pointed out, are just excuses and are aimed at justifying the continued US presence in the region.
