On his social network, Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso expressed his sorrow for the death of the intellectual, of great prestige inside and outside Cuba.
“He achieved what he wanted: to be a writer. He created a work that will survive him. He leaves surrounded by everyone’s admiration and affection. See you always, poet,” he said.
“Antón left us. One of our greats with a capital letter. He knew how to explore secret areas of Cubanness as a narrator, playwright, poet and chronicler. Rest in peace, brother,” writer and essayist Abel Prieto, president of Casa de las Americas, posted on Twitter.
