Uruguayan unions announce a week of protests

Montevideo, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan PIT-CNT trade union will call for a strike with different demands, while the trade unions of the public sector are expecting, as of this Friday, protest actions for next week.

It will be the fourth general strike called by the PIT-CNT this year, although no decision has been made, its Vice President José Lorenzo López stated.

The defense of public education, collective bargaining, the water crisis, and the demands of the dairy and cement workers could be among the issues raised in the rally.

The association of employees at the national energy company (UTE) declared itself in conflict with the company’s management due to “respect for collective bargaining, against budget cuts, for the entry of personnel and in defense of functional careers.”

In a press release, they noted that the “protest is to change the privatization policy the UTE management has been implementing.
