France: Solidarity meeting in solidarity with poet Nancy Morejón

Paris, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban embassy in France on Tuesday hosted a meeting with the renowned poet Nancy Morejon in order to express their strong support against the decision made by the Paris Poetry Market to withdraw her from the honorary presidency given foreign pressures.

Intellectuals, poets and members of French solidarity and cooperation organizations, Latin American ambassadors and Cuban residents in France attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Morejon shared stories of her life and work, and discussed what happened with the Parisian event that will begin tomorrow.

In his opening speech, Cuban Ambassador Otto Vaillant strongly condemned an insult against a Cuban culture symbol and acknowledged the wave of reactions in support of Morejon and in rejection of the fact that the Poetry Market gave in to foreign pressures.

We cannot allow hatred to take over our lives, the Cuban diplomat stressed.

Morejon shared her relations with France and insisted that poetry has always been a common good at the service of peace and love.

The Cuban poet stressed her commitment to the Cuban Revolution and the right to freely express her feelings and opinions.

Francis Combes, coordinator for France and Europe of the World Poetry Movement, handed over a petition signed by over 300 personalities and citizens to Morejon in support of condemnation of the Paris Poetry Market decision.

Combes described this stance as unfair, and claimed that: “There will always be a place for Nancy and Cuban poetry in the heart of Paris”.
