In a message, CubaCoop´s first vice-president Miguel Quintero considered the People´s Summit –to be held in Brussels- as the perfect setting to foster the call for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba for more than 60 years.
Brussels will host the Summit of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on July 17 – 18. In line with this meeting, it will be held the Peoples´ Summit.
It is an important event for sharing insights, debates and also for strengthening relations among popular movements, trade unions, solidarity groups, emigrants, associations, personalities, as well as European, Latin American and Caribbean political forces, Quintero stressed.
In this regard, Quintero confirmed CubaCoop’s attendance to the Peoples’ Summit where it will share some details on his association´s request to the European Union past January in coordination with associations from Spain, Italy and Sweden.
The initiative, in addition to condemning the unjust and hostile U.S. blockade against Cuba, also urges solidarity and calls on the EU to take on responsibilities and confront such an extraterritorial policy.
Quintero pointed out that CubaCoop received this week an e-mail stating that: “the Committee on Petitions examined your request and declared it admissible, because the issue it raises falls within the scope of action of the European Union”.
This means that it will be published on the site of the European Parliament and people will be able to support it officially, an advance that will allow us to move up a higher step, he stressed.
