Cuban government confirms improvement in energy carriers

Havana, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel headed a key government meeting that noted improvements in the situation of energy carriers and assessed the progress of measures for the socioeconomic development of this Caribbean country.

During the session of the executive committee of the Council of Ministers on Monday, led by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, the stability in the supply of fuels and other energy carriers was acknowledged in relation to previous weeks.

According to a television news report early on Tuesday, the head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Vicente La O, pointed out that electricity generation capacities have been recovered.

The head of this sector stated that the strategy made it possible to put into operation the thermoelectric plants planned to produce the energy demanded by the population and the nation’s economy during the summer months.

All the power plants planned to be incorporated to the national grid are on line, there is one more planned for the month of August; meanwhile, the Energas company reaches its generation potentialities during peak hours, Minister La O added.

The President appreciated the improvement in the supply of fuel, and urged to follow up on the measures taken in order to achieve continuity in their implementation.

The governmental body also reviewed the actions to guarantee food production and the acquisition and distribution of the basic food basket in spite of the international crisis and the tightening of the U.S. blockade.

Likewise, the Council of Minister looked into the situation of cargo and passenger transportation and the supply of water to the population.

Regarding the latter, the president of the Hydraulic Resources Institute, Antonio Rodríguez, explained that although there is recovery in the water reservoirs, there are regions of the country affected by the drought.
