When speaking at the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of that intergovernmental forum for economic and financial coordination, the president pointed out that the entry of the AU is “a profoundly fair act that allows us to understand and address the needs of that wonderful continent”.
Likewise, he highlighted the importance of paying attention to the challenges and problems facing Latin America. On the other hand, he condemned financial speculation, restrictions, blockades and trade barriers faced by countries in that region and the world and criticized the International Monetary Fund for clinging to its dogmas and showing itself incapable of new solutions.
Fernandez also urged to combat hate speech that exalts dictatorships and promotes discrimination and authoritarianism, especially when 50 years have passed since the coup d’état against former Chilean president Salvador Allende (1908-1973) and 40 have passed since the end of the last civil-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Going back on the rights granted only weakens the society that loses them. The value of democracy is called into question and the rule of law ends up facing those who deny the genocides, he noted.
During his speech, the head of state also expressed his concern about the effects of climate change, hunger and food security, and urged finding joint solutions to these problems.
Furthermore, he invited the incorporation of the gender and diversity perspective in the formulation of policies and the generation of conditions of equality, autonomy, equity and dignity.
