Minister Munive warns of rising deaths from heart attacks

San Jose, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) A briefing by the Costa Rican Ministry of Health warns Friday of growing deaths from acute myocardial infarction by by 11% in 2022, reaching 2,144 cases.

Meanwhile, in 2021, as many as 1,928 deaths had been counted up.

The statement referred that out of the death toll in 2022, 869 were women (40%) and 1,275 were men (60%).

In a speech for commemorating the World Heart Day, Health Minister Mary Munive urged Costa Ricans to do exercises. Walking or at least doing jogging, both activities have been proven to contribute to physical and mental health, she explained.

“From the Ministry of Health, we have taken a series of actions to boost health as comprehensive welfare, which can be reached either you suffer from a disease or not.”

Likewise, the ministry insists on the need to take actions favoring to prevent and control heart disease, such as: controlling blood pressure, eating a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol, controlling weight, consuming fruits and vegetables and avoiding smoking.
