They warned in a statement that the blockade is materialized “in extreme sanctions by the United States that directly threaten the lives of the Cuban people, limiting the access of children, women and the elderly to basic goods and services.”

They recalled that since 1992, the United Nations has approved unrestricted resolutions demanding that the US blockade against Cuba be lifted.

“If the blockade had not existed, Cuba’s GDP could have grown by nine percent by 2022,” they pointed out.

In addition to the damage caused by the blockade, in 2021, Cuba was included in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism list, which is unacceptable under the understanding that Cuba has been committed to the peace processes in Colombia and Latin America and the Caribbean, they warned.

They recall that on September 20, 2022, more than 50 congress people from progressive parties, especially from the Historic Pact, sent a letter to the US Government requesting that Cuba be removed from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

“In the face of the intensification of sanctions and the blockade against Cuba, we raise our voices once again, speaking out strongly for an end to the injustice,” they said.
