CEAS calls fro withdrawal of accused prosecutor in Peru

Lima, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) The Episcopal Commission for Social Action (CEAS) of the Peruvian Catholic Church on Tuesday called for the Peruvian Prosecutor Patricia Benavides´ resignation, who has been accused by counter-corruption prosecutors and police of heading a criminal network.

“We demand the removal of the National Prosecutor and the protection of prosecutors,” the commission of the Peruvian Catholic Episcopal Conference referred to the counter-corruption prosecutors dismissed by Benavides and that, in addition, the Board of Supreme Prosecutors should remove her from office.

“The Prosecutor of the Nation obstructs justice and generates impunity by dismissing prosecutor Marita Barreto (head of the team of Counter-Corruption prosecutors)” who is investigating her alognside her advisors, CEAS added.

According to CEAS, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is going through its worst crisis in view of the corruption’s pieces of evidence once again in its leadership, for which the organization demanded that the Board of Supreme Prosecutors remove her from office.
