An Argentine-Uruguayan film in competition at Cuban Festival

Havana, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) The International Festival of New Latin American Cinema welcomes films of almost twenty countries in this capital on Friday, and Argentina, among those nations with the highest participation, will compete in co-production with Uruguay with the film adapted from literature "El Viento que Arrasa" (A Ravaging Wind).

The 2023 drama film is directed by Paula Hernández and is based on the novel by Selva Almada.

Almada is considered one of the significant writers of contemporary Argentinian and Latin American Literature; her work has been compared to that of William Faulkner.

This film has been selected to participate in the Centerpiece section of the 2023 International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.

“El Viento que Arrasa” tells the story of Leni, who gripped by the blind faith in her father, Reverend Pearson, accompanies him on his evangelical mission. A banal accident forces them to stop at an auto repair shop.

When the Reverend becomes obsessed with saving the soul of Tapioca, the mechanic’s son, Leni realizes that the time has come to take her fate into her own hands.

In addition to the Toronto and San Sebastian film festivals, “El Viento que Arrasa” won a nomination at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival this year.
