Salvadoran official says gov’t cracks down on crime

San Salvador, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador is making progress in the fight off human smugglers alias 'coyotes,' drug trafficking and smuggling gangs that try to use its borders to move illicit goods, an official source informed on Wednesday.

At the 57th Ordinary Meeting of the Commission of Migration Authorities of the Member Countries of the Central American Integration System, SICA-OCAM, of which El Salvador holds the pro tempore presidency, Director of Migration Ricardo Cucalon, highlighted the country’s efforts in the crackdown on crime.

The official praised the results of the work conducted by the country to guarantee an orderly and safe migration in the region and, contribute to fight off crime.

We have a constant combat against “coyotes,” those irresponsible, unscrupulous people, criminals, alias coyotes because they hide and steal from the people selling them an American dream that does not exist, he pointed out.

“We know well how drug cartels operate, smuggling, human trafficking, children organs smuggling, we are part of the national security scaffolding; therefore, we are checking borders day by day, we know how many people enter and what they do in the country, where they stay, where they go and what time they are going to leave,” he assured.
