Ecuadorian law enforcement conduct operations near ports and airports

Quito, January 16 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian armed force and police have reinforced their presence and are conducting operations in areas near ports and airports to guarantee security in the facilities in the midst of the internal armed conflict.

Although these strategic points have not been militarized, there is a greater presence of law enforcement to control the entry and exit of people and goods.

The Ecuadorian ports are currently under greater surveillance due to the fact that from there, the largest amount of drugs is transferred to European countries, such as Spain, Belgium or the Netherlands.

According to commander of the Ecuadorian Air Force Luis Fierro, reinforced security actions were implemented in the busiest and most risky air terminals, which includes Quito and Guayaquil.

Ecuador is in the middle of a state of emergency with a night curfew as a result of the series of violent acts in prisons and streets in different locations.

The joint operations of the Armed Forces and the National Police have left 1,534 detainees nationwide, of them 158 arrested for crimes associated with terrorism, according to the most recent official balance.

So far, law enforcement bodies have carried out more than 15,000 operations in the country’s 24 provinces, 41 of them against criminal groups, now classified as terrorists.
