Sudanese army rejects EU sanctions

Khartoum, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) The Sudanese Army rejected the European Council's decision to impose economic sanctions on its military entities, according to a statement released in this capital on Tuesday.

The document expresses the Armed Forces’ dissatisfaction compared to the paramilitary forces they have been fighting since April 2023.

Among those listed are two companies related to manufacturing weapons and vehicles for the Armed Forces.

The sanctions also affect three companies procuring military equipment for the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Clashes in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, due to disagreement amid an integration process between the RSF, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, vice-president of the Sovereign Transitional Council (STC) within the Armed Forces, and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Army and president of the STC.

Both generals are battling for control in Sudan after the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.
