Argentine social groups to demand respect for retirees’s rights

ancianos-sueno
Buenos Aires, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Members of social organizations, the Central Workers of Argentina (CTA) and the Autonomous CTA will participate in a demonstration in front of the seat of the Congress to defend the rights of retirees.

The members of these groups will hold rallies in front of the legislative headquarters at 6:00 p.m. local time, one day before a special session in the Chamber of Deputies to debate the “Omnibus Law.”

According to the call, the protesters will express their rejection of the Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines project and a decree of necessity and urgency signed by President Javier Milei.

They will also demand the elimination of measures that affect retirees, and will denounce attempts to end the Sustainability Guarantee Fund, created in 2007 by former president Néstor Kirchner (1950-2010) in order to protect the pension system from economic fluctuations and ensure its solidity and reliability.

In addition, they will demand an increase in pensions and the continuity of the Effective Retirement Mobility Law.

On January 24th, the two CTA and numerous organizations participated in a general strike and a march, which were convened by the General Confederation of Labor to reject the Government’s measures.

The Omnibus Law includes highly questioned aspects such as the attribution of legislative functions to the Executive and the establishment of economic, pension, social security, defense, tariff, energy, health and administrative emergencies.
