The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) indicated that it is working to control the disease, against which more than 20,000 vaccines have already been purchased.
Some 230 equines have died with clinical symptoms of this mosquito-borne disease.
More than 4400 recovered and another 250 are in the process of recovery, according to MGAP.
The departments of Paysandú and San José have reported the highest incidences.
Precisely in this department, the first case of a person infected with equine encephalitis was confirmed.
Minister of Health Karina Rando explained that the patient had no contact with horses, so she warned about the need to avoid vector breeding sites.
Rando informed that seven other people have symptoms and are receiving medical assistance.
