Guatemala plans to attract an additional 1.5 million tourists

Guatemala City, Mar 3 (Prensa Latina) The Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat) today plans to attract an additional 1.5 million more foreign visitors, which means a 58 percent increase over the figure of 2023.

Achieving this goal will require actions contemplated in the authority’s Strategic Plan 2024-2028, its new president Harris Whitbeck said, describing the promotion of alliances with communities and local governments as key to reach that goal.

He included entrepreneurs, tourism operators and public-private initiatives to improve infrastructure, as well as airports and highways, and cooperation with sectors linked to the industry.

We will approach the nation’s consulates around the world to promote tourism, the former CNN commentator stressed, in view of achieving an annual average of 4,100,000,000 tourists by the end of 2028.

We will implement the National Tourism Security Program, which will guarantee protection and welfare of travelers, the authority added, along with the deputy director of Inguat, Ericka Guillermo.

Official data from Inguat show that last year 2, 600,000 visitors enjoyed Guatemalan destinations.

This sector is one of the main sources of employment generation and contributes to the improvement of the economic conditions of the communities.
