Labor and community organizations to march in El Salvador

San Salvador, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Civil society organizations and trade unions in El Salvador will commemorate International Labor Day with marches in the capital to demand respect for their rights, according to communiqués issued by unions.

Groups gathered in the Bloc of Popular Resistance and Rebellion (BRRP), the Coordinating Committee for Trade Union Unification (CUS), the National Alliance El Salvador in Peace, the organization of veterans and war cripples will meet in El Divino Salvador del Mundo, a central square in the capital, tomorrow May 1 to march to the Plaza Civica Gerardo Barrios. According to the summoning organizations, the activity will serve to denounce the abuses of the State and the setbacks in the rights of the working class.

On 1 May, the marching organizations will use the slogan ‘With Unity, Struggle and Organization we will Rescue the Nation’.

‘We want to invite the Salvadoran people, all the workers of the different public institutions, autonomous, semi-autonomous, municipalities, housewives, peasants, students, to join us in this great march where we will be commemorating the International Day of the Working Class,’ Sonia Urrutia, belonging to the BRP said.

The union leader asserted that they will denounce the setbacks they had with the Bukele Government due to the high cost of living and the economic crisis that El Salvador is going through.

‘The call is clear and timely, we are calling on the Salvadoran population, organized and unorganized people to be clear that this date (1 May) is a date to pay tribute to those who fought in the past so that now we can talk about labor rights,’ Sonia Viñerta, representing the CUS, added.
