Mexico’s flagship airline to expand international flights

Mexico City, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) Mexicana de Aviación plans to expand its reach with the incorporation of trips to 11 international destinations, including Havana (Cuba), Bogota (Colombia), and the U.S. cities of Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.

According to its executives, these plans should materialize in the next three years, including constructing two bases of operations in Tijuana and Tulum to offer flights from here, to the United States, Canada, and South America.

Likewise, to cover the new routes, the state-owned company ordered 20 E2 aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer, enabling it to increase its competitiveness and improve its service.

The first five E195s, with a capacity of 132 passengers, should be delivered in the second quarter of 2025; seven 108-passenger E190s are expected to arrive in 2026 and the rest, three E190s and five E195s, in 2027.

Mexicana de Aviación seeks to reposition itself after it returned to the market last December and since then has transported 140,762 passengers on 2,990 flights to and from 18 destinations, mostly domestic.

The Government hopes that the expansion of its itinerary will benefit passengers, as it should result in a reduction in the cost of airline tickets in the country.
