China and Belarus to carry out military exercises against terrorism

Beijing, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of National Defense of China announced today joint military exercises with Belarus this month, focused on anti-terrorist operations.

According to the military agency, the maneuvers respond to a mutual agreement between the two countries and are part of this year’s plan.

Scheduled near Brest, Belarus, the exercises involve a mixed team formation in which soldiers from both sides will jointly carry out hostage rescue operations and anti-terrorist missions.

According to the statement from the Chinese side, the maneuver is aimed at “improving the training levels and coordination capabilities of the participating troops, as well as deepening practical cooperation between the armies of the two countries.”

The presidents of China, Xi Jinping, and Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, recently met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, an event in which regional security and cooperation were key issues.

The President congratulated his counterpart on Belarus’ accession to the SCO and stressed that bilateral relations “will continue to develop in a healthy way and with great progress under the two countries efforts.”
