Argentine workers define protest actions

Buenos Aires, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) The delegates of the State Workers Association (ATE) in this capital city will hold a meeting to define protest actions in view of the Argentine Government's intention to freeze salaries in the public administration.

In a statement, this organization denounced that the Executive of Javier Milei proposed an increase of only two percent in August and one in September, besides not planning to grant further increases until the end of the year.

Transportation and public service rates continue to rise. The inflationary process is stagnating at high levels and reserves are falling at the expense of the non-existent consumption of the popular sectors.

More than 1,500,000 children skip one meal a day and the elderly cannot pay for their medicines: the choice is either to be cured or to eat, the text points out.

In addition, ATE Capital condemns “the emptying of the State and the false idea that the government is fighting the so-called caste, while the concentration of wealth is increasing in the hands of the most powerful”.

“Argentine society is in agony. Everything is upside down, not only in wages. Small and medium-sized companies are dropping like flies and the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovello, should be brought to account before the courts”, the Secretary General of this grouping, Daniel Catalano, stated.

If the government freezes wages, it will increase the hunger of the workers who can no longer afford it, in a context of minimum consumption and accumulation of debts. If it makes this decision, there will be struggle and mobilization, strikes in strategic sectors and union organization standing up in each ministry, he assured.
