Costa Rica seeks to retrieve deleted emails in fraud case

San Jose, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) The deleted e-mails on the accounts of eight officials of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) are highly likely to be recovered, and they will be prosecuted for irregularities, an expert said today.

According to Extra Radio station, the possibilities of retrieving around 300 messages deleted by an unknown user during the investigations on CCSS directors, linked to the known Barrenador Case, will be higher if Microsoft accept to cooperate, cybersecurity expert Jose Adalid added.

“If it is a technology that the authorities have, they have trained personnel, specialized in cybercrime. Technically it should not be something so complex, so it is highly likely to recover the emails”, the technician reflected after confirming the deletion of the messages.

The Director of the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ), Randall Zuñiga, denounced the fact in the last hours, and explained that the deleted electronic texts are necessary for the investigation in the Barrenador Case.

The hearing against the eight executives of the CCSS, accused of irregularities in the administration of resources and headed by its president and main implicated party, Marta Esquivel, continued on Friday morning, when the official made a statement.
