One of the largest labor unions in this Central American nation indicated in its most recent statement that little is said about the fact that Panama is the sixth country in the world with the largest inequalities in the distribution of wealth, where indigence and misery are on the rise.
It also pointed out, among other calamities, the lack of access to quality health care and the deficiencies of the educational system, with the existence of the so-called ranch schools.
The CNTP considered as a political setback, that due to serious omissions, the Government had to withdraw from the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) for a deeper revision of the National Budget 2025 bill.
Considering that the GDP reached the figure of 87,3 billion dollars as of August 2024; the 7.0 percent of the Budget that would correspond to education is 6.1 billion dollars, but the bill alloted only 4,3 billion dollars.
All these are structural and functional problems in which the new Executive is immersed, according to the CNTP, which responds to the route of the free market driven by the neo-liberal oligarchy promoted by the US government, according to the union statement.
The workers warned that in the face of the policies of subordination to the United States that seeks total domination of the country, they will continue in their consistent struggle to combat social inequalities and will raise their voice for true independence and national sovereignty.
