Support for Cuba and trade tensions with EU mark Chinese week

Beijing, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) China's support for Cuba against the United States blockade and trade tensions with the European Union (EU) over tariffs on Chinese-made electrical cars characterize the week that ends on Saturday.

Some 70 delegates from 16 countries and 36 organizations in Asia-Pacific issued a statement this week in support of Cuba and against the unilateral blockade by the United States.

At the closing session of the 10th Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, participants demanded the end of Washington’s hostile policy, condemned all sanctions and called for the Caribbean island’s removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Peter Weizel, a member of the Cuba solidarity movement in Australia, said that the Caribbean nation is a beacon of hope for the Global South.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry welcomed the majority support from the international community for Cuba against the US blockade, and demanded the immediate elimination of this hostile policy.

In the opinion of Spokesperson Lin Jian, the recent vote at the United Nations in favor of the Cuban resolution shows that the unilateral and intimidating actions by the United States, which seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, are overwhelmingly condemned by the member states.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that Beijing will maintain its firm position in favor of international equity and justice and will continue to support the Cuban people in their resistance against external interference, in defense of their sovereignty and national dignity.

This week, the Chinese business community expressed concern, deep regret and firm opposition to the European Union’s decision to impose tariffs on electrical cars imported from China.

China’s Trade Promotion Commission repeated its desire for Beijing and Europe to act together, address each other’s legitimate concerns, oppose trade protectionism, and promote the healthy and stable development of economic and trade relations.

The European Commission decided to impose an anti-dumping tariff of 7.8-35.3 percent on imports of electrical vehicles from China, applicable for a period of five years.

China also condemned the investment restrictions imposed by the United States on sectors such as chips, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

In another event, China recently expressed its rejection of military aggression and violations of sovereignty after Israel’s recent attacks on military facilities in Iran.

Lin Jian stressed the urgency of a ceasefire to stop the escalation of the conflict and repeated the call to the international community, in particular the big powers, to play a constructive role in creating the necessary conditions to ease tensions.
