This measure amends the Penal Code and allows the public to access to the full name and registration number in the Natural Persons Register (CPF) of those convicted of crimes against sex dignity.
The confidentiality of the proceedings and the information concerning the victim is guaranteed.
Before the amendment, proceedings for crimes against sexual dignity were conducted in secret, without the information being made available.
The text approved by the National Congress states that the register must also inform the crime for which the defendant was convicted.
If the person is exonerated subsequently, the information will become confidential again.
The bill was approved by the Federal Senate on October 30, with its supporters arguing that such public knowledge can prevent schools or other places tending to children from hiring people convicted of pedophilia.
The original proposal came from Senator Margareth Buzetti and was forwarded to the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies by Representative Soraya Santos.
Crimes against sexual dignity are considered violations against children and sexual offenses through fraud, sexual harassment, abuse of a vulnerable person, child corruption, disclosure of scenes of rape, sex, or pornography.
