Vice President Rosario Murillo informed that 1,910 individuals from the Penitentiary System are enrolled in higher education to start their university studies in February 2025.
“When there is knowledge, there are also purposes and paths to freedom”, the high Sandinista leader said in the press media of the citizen power.
She added that another 1,700 prisoners are registered in the National Agrarian University, which offers degrees in agronomy, agribusiness, zootechnical engineering, environmental engineering, natural resources, and forestry engineering.
In addition, some 170 inmates are enrolled at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua to pursue bachelor’s degrees in English, business administration, and marketing. In addition, at the higher education center of the Autonomous Region of the Caribbean Coast, 16 inmates are enrolled in sociology, 18 in business administration, and 17 in educational sciences.
