During her usual press conference, Sheinbaum referred to two significant decisions in 2024: the continuity of the movement initiated by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2018, and the inauguration of the first woman as head of the government.
She also mentioned the approval during this period of important reforms, among them that of the judiciary, which includes the election by popular vote of judges, magistrates and ministers next June, and the constitutional acknowledgment of women on equal footing.
She also highlighted other changes, including the consolidation of social programs as constitutional rights and the recognition of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples as full subjects of rights.
This profound transformation that we are experiencing is for the good of the country and is praised by the population, “so much so that people support their government and we are not going to separate ourselves from the transformation,” said Sheinbaum in response to a journalist’s question.
She said that at the next press conference, on January 2, a review of 2024 will be made to explain how Mexico concludes this period in economic, social and political terms.
The year also closes, she said, with a stance in favor of compatriots in the United States, emphasizing that this nation is respected and constitutes a cultural power, whose greatness comes from the recognition of indigenous peoples and the fruitful history of the country.
“So, Mexican humanism and moral economy have given Mexico a different vision and they are the ones who are giving it a vision of hope for 2025 (…) It is going to be a very good year,” the president predicted.
