The source said the teams arrived in Cairo in the last few hours, though he gave no further details.
As agreed, the truce began this morning and should last six weeks in its first phase. It is expected that 33 Israelis, most of them alive, will be released in exchange for 1,904 Palestinians, 737 of them condemned to various sentences and 1,167 detained in Gaza during the Army’s ground operations.
Those released include members of the ruling Fatah movement, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
This phase also foresees the end of military operations, the Israeli withdrawal from populated areas of the coastal enclave, including the so-called Netzarin axis, which cuts the Strip in two, and the return northward of hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
In addition, it was also agreed the entry of 600 trucks loaded with vital products for the territory, which is plagued by hunger and a severe humanitarian crisis, as a result of 15 months of war.
The second phase of the pact, to be negotiated 16 days after the start of the truce, will aim for a complete and sustainable calm, the exchange of additional prisoners, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
