Both sides agreed to continue talks within the framework of an enhanced social dialogue, now with the aim of reaching a sustainable Memorandum of Understanding that addresses the structural problems of the education sector.
This agreement is an important step to allow students, throughout the country, to return to schools in the coming days, the daily Le Nouvelliste said.
Public and secondary school teachers have been on strike since January 13 to demand better working conditions and other demands.
Among the main demands are the adjustment of wages in line with inflation and the cost of living, the payment of back wages, the regularization of hired teachers, the appointment of qualified teachers, the improvement of insurance services and benefits.
Several labor organizations led the unlimited strike against the government, including the National Confederation of Educators of Haiti, the National League of Haitian Teachers, the Haitian Educators Network and the Teachers Initiative Group.
