In the recent webinar, organized by Islamabad, “SEZs Development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC): Learning from China’s Green Model,” experts and policymakers noted the importance of cooperation to enhance industrial competitiveness in the face of climate change.
In this context, Erfa Iqbal, Executive Director General and Additional Secretary of the Board of Investment, underscored the ongoing efforts to accelerate the development of Pakistan’s SEZs, including incentives for foreign and local investors.
Iqbal also highlighted the importance of integrating environmental considerations into economic planning and welcomed the collaboration with Chinese experts to guide the transition to green SEZs.
“Of the nine SEZs under CPEC, four are already operational, with progress on the remaining zones moving at full throttle,” she affirmed.
The official added that Pakistan is applying a SEZ model, proven globally and in China, to create centers of excellence for economic development.
