“We are acting with dignity, with sovereignty, with responsibility, a lot of responsibility and always seeking dialogue, in defense of our sovereignty and with respect for Mexicans,” said the president during her usual meeting with journalists.
Sheimbaun also highlighted the open manner in which her government deals with Mexican nationals, who “will always be welcomed with open arms”, a treatment she said has been similarly extended to cases of other nationalities arriving in her country, as has been done in the past.
“If there is a foreign person at the border, out of humanitarian considerations – and bearing in mind that there just 7 degrees centigrade in Ciudad Juárez- we cannot deny them attention.”
“What we have (with the US) is coordination, communication without subordination, always in defense of our sovereignty and the Mexicans living in the United States,” she noted.
As part of what her government calls “Mexico te abraza” (Mexico embraces you) Plan, Mexico has installed 10 migrant care centers -which according to authorities remain empty- on six border posts, to guarantee access to health and all social programs, as well as other facilities, to the arriving compatriots.
Sheinbaum announced yesterday that a thousand and 94 deportees had arrived from the United States, most of them Mexican citizens, from January 20 to 26th, a figure that -she said- does not represent a substantial increase compared to previous weeks.
