A statement from that organization that represents Cuban Civil Society, denounced the return of Cuba to the US list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, the expansion of the list of national entities restricted from trade, as well as the application of Title III of the extraterritorial Helms-Burton Act.
During the annual review of the UN, held at Casa de las Américas in this capital, the entity attached to the United Nations warned that the White House’s decisions are the main cause of the deterioration of the standard of living of the Cuban population, the deficiencies of its health system, the increase in the migration flow and the worsening of the social and economic problems in Cuba.
In this context, “we condemn the mass, flagrant and systematic violations of all human rights of the Cuban population, as a result of the (US) blockade, which includes the right to health, food, culture, education, and a healthy life,” the statement said.
According to the institution, the blockade by the Government of the United States also violates civil and political rights by “attempting to change the political, economic and social system that Cubans have freely decided upon, in full exercise of our self-determination.”
The ACNU also rejected the use of the Guantanamo Naval Base, a Cuban territory illegally occupied by the United States, as a prison for migrants forcibly expelled from that country, which is a measure of absolute brutality and a clear violation of their human rights.
The agency also condemned the insults by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio against Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, and defended the history of humanism of the Cuban Revolution, expressed in the support and collaboration with various nations of the world.
The statement pointed out that “the revolutionary and committed Cuban civil society, a symbol of the best of the intellectuality and progressive artists of our continent, reaffirms its unwavering right and decision to build a socialist, prosperous, sustainable, independent and sovereign homeland.”
