The electoral delegate of the Armed Forces, Nilo Estrada, assured that there are no reports of incidents in the country’s electoral precincts and affirmed that observers, the press and delegates of political organizations have been given facilities for their work.
However, observers reported specific incidents in five provinces where representatives of political movements and parties were prevented from accessing the voting tables.
Meanwhile, Henry Tapia, delegate of the National Police, reported that so far there are 689 people who have violated the electoral rules, especially the Prohibition Law, which prohibits the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages until tomorrow at noon.
The electoral body announced that the voting precincts in the national territory will close at 5:00 p.m. (local time) and from 7:00 p.m. (local time), the results will begin to be displayed.
More than 13.7 million Ecuadorians are called to the polls this Sunday to elect, in addition to the president and vice president, 151 legislators and five Andean parliamentarians.
A total of 16 candidates aspire to the presidency in these elections that analysts and surveys show are polarized between Luisa González, of the Citizen Revolution, and Daniel Noboa, current president and candidate for reelection.
At the same time, there are complaints of possible manipulation of the popular will, although the CNE has ruled this out and ratified the guarantees of transparency.
