“My message of brotherhood in the face of the bitter physical departure of Sam Nujoma, a historic nationalist leader,” wrote the head of state on his Telegram account.
I remember the “founding father” of Namibia, since together with the people he won its independence and governed in a dignified and sovereign manner, he said.
Maduro said that his efforts for national reconciliation, economic development and the consolidation of Namibia’s independence are widely accepted and valued.
He indicated in this regard that from Venezuela, “close to his struggle, we awarded him the Francisco de Miranda Order in life, a Bolivarian and Chavista honor to such an upright and courageous man.”
“May his legacy endure in the history of Namibia, Africa and in us, friendly countries throughout the Global South, for being a symbol of struggle, unity and hope. We will win with you, dear Tatekulu!” he said.
Foreign Minister Yván Gil said that the Bolivarian Republic joins Namibia in national mourning for the death of Sam Nujoma, whom he called “an outstanding leader in the struggle for independence against German colonialism and the oppression of South African apartheid.”
He recalled that in 1990 Nujoma became the first democratic president of Namibia, leading the country towards a new era based on the principles of freedom, equality and justice.
“Although he left us at the age of 95, his legacy will live on forever in history,” the foreign minister said on the same social network.
