Minister reaffirms Bolivian president’s candidacy for reelection

La Paz, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Another boost to the possible reelection of Bolivian President Luis Arce in the general elections on August 17 is the latest public intervention by the Minister of the Presidency, María Nela Prada.

After a multitudinous caravan in Santa Cruz, the minister affirmed that the dignitary will be a candidate in those elections.

Surrounded by militants of the Movement for Socialism-Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP), Prada assured that “President Luis Arce is our candidate for 2025-2030.”

The caravan, in which the Minister of Public Works, Édgar Montaño, also participated, brought together hundreds of vehicles and MAS-IPSP members, who carried black and blue flags, identifying colors of the ruling party. Last Friday, social organizations from the Yungas of La Paz proclaimed Arce as a candidate for reelection.

During an event in the municipality of Coripata, the executive of the Council of Peasant Federations of the Yungas (Cofecay) Ronald Salazar, was in charge of proclaiming the dignitary, whose leadership of the country he highlighted in the midst of a global crisis.

“Today we are going to proclaim the brother president as a candidate of the Yungas of La Paz and representative of our Political Instrument (…)”, said the leader.

The new proclamation occurred after the Extraordinary Meeting of the MAS-IPSP, in the city of El Alto, agreed on a deadline until April 11 to elect its duo of candidates for president and vice president in the general elections of August 17. As in the Yungas, meetings of the various social organizations related to the MAS-IPSP will be held throughout the country to elect the presidential duo and also the candidates for the Plurinational Legislative Assembly.

“I am deeply grateful and honored by this nomination that has been made to us,” said Arce for the proclamation and noted that “we really still need a few years to be able to fulfill everything that is needed in the country.”

Regarding the Yungas, he reported that various infrastructure works were carried out in education, in productive issues and road integration, although he recognized that others are still needed to meet the demands of the region.

He stressed the importance of the August elections, where Bolivians will elect the president and vice president, 130 deputies, 36 senators and 9 supranational representatives.

He meant that these elections will confront two visions of the country: one represented by the old neoliberal rulers, and another that seeks the deepening of the Plurinational State.
