The Foreign Ministry’s statement came in the context of the first meeting of the group’s coordinators, under the Brazilian presidency, in which priority issues such as the regulation of this technology were discussed.
According to spokesperson Lin Jian, China advocates for the development of artificial intelligence that is ethical, safe, sustainable and inclusive.
“AI is a common heritage of mankind and should not become a tool for maintaining hegemony or seeking advantages,” he said.
He stressed that all countries must move forward together in this process, with equal rights, opportunities and rules to build an open, inclusive and non-discriminatory environment.
“We stand ready to work with all parties to bridge the technology gap and promote sustainable development globally,” he stated.
On the possibility that discussions at the UN may not move fast enough, Lin Jian reiterated the need for Brics members to boost complementary initiatives.
Earlier, spokesman Guo Jiankun expressed the Chinese government’s stance against the politicization of technology, particularly in relation to national security, and rejected any attempt to impose ideologies on technological cooperation.
AI has become one of the main driving forces of technological and economic transformation, said the Foreign Ministry.
At the same time, it underscored Beijing’s commitment to innovation in this sector by supporting the growth of enterprises and the promotion of a safe and secure environment.
