National Defense Ministry Spokesperson Wu Qian affirmed that the island’s issue is a Chinese internal matter and does not allow any external interference.

“The United States tries to use Taiwan to contain China by encouraging the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to make dangerous provocations toward independence,” he said.

Wu Qian warned that the Taiwanese authorities made a serious mistake by relying on external support.

The spokesperson noted that the DPP authorities’ “fantasies” of “relying on the United States to seek independence” and “resisting unification by force” are serious misjudgments of the situation, public opinion, and the balance of power.

China expressed its grave concern on Wednesday, following the US decision to release 5.3 billion dollars in foreign aid funds, including 870 million dollars for military assistance to Taiwan.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian affirmed that the move seriously violates the one-China principle and the three joint statements made by the two countries.
